Many readers will understand that a kind word from a friend, a stranger, a relative, or acquaintance can have a deep impact on one’s psyche. That warm, fuzzy feeling; a sense of relief; or simply hearing an alternate perspective can truly brighten one’s cloudy day.
The MDM is blessed and fortunate to be on the receiving end of such kind words on a regular basis from someone who can only be described as a true gentleman: her elderly grandfather.
The MDM’s grandfather has a favourite method for inserting a said kind word into conversation with her, and that is to casually mention the MDM’s boyfriend. When corrected by the MDM, who reminds him (again) that she does not have a boyfriend, her elderly grandfather typically responds, “No boyfriend? What’s wrong with these blokes?” or, (arthritically) shaking his head, “I just don’t understand it, darl.” He then continues to bestow compliments on the MDM to ensure her that in his eyes she shines, regularly bursting into song in his ageing baritone voice and of course, a twinkle in his merry eye.
Recently, the MDM realised that her thinking on this subject (ie. still having no boyfriend) had allowed clouds of despair and disappointment to begin to roll over her mind and heart. The kind words of her 89 year old grandfather broke through this to remind the MDM that she is indeed loved and thought of with high regard by him. And that, dear readers, filled her heart with radiant sunshine that only a true gentleman can bring.
